Bruckner’s Acquires 3 Arkansas Dealerships

Bruckner Truck Sales has expanded into Northwest and Central Arkansas with the recent acquisition of Shipley Motor Equipment Company. The 3 dealerships located in Fort Smith, Lowell and Pottsville have served the trucking industry for 74 years.

Like Shipley Motors, Bruckner’s is a third-generation family operated business with deep roots in the trucking industry. Since 1932 Bruckner’s has invested in their people to provide the highest level of service. This is done by continuous training and development of their team to ensure customers receive the best service possible. Bruckner’s looks forward to maintaining this approach with their newest team members in Arkansas providing the best in class trucks, parts, and service. They will continue investing in their facilities, tools and equipment to ensure customers receive the best support needed to run their business. “Whether it is the proprietary or all-makes brands we represent for trucks and trailers, we will have you covered,” shares Vice President, Chris Bruckner.

International Roadcheck Sept. 9-11

On March 25, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) postponed its 2020 International Roadcheck due to the growing coronavirus pandemic. CVSA has now rescheduled the 72-hour event for Sept. 9-11. This year’s enforcement initiative will focus on the driver requirements component of a roadside inspection.

Driver inspection

For the driver portion of an inspection, the inspector will collect and verify the driver’s documents, identify the motor carrier, examine the driver’s license, check record of duty status and review periodic inspection reports, according to CVSA. If applicable, the inspector will check the Medical Examiner’s Certificate, Skill Performance Evaluation Certificate and the driver’s daily vehicle inspection report.

Inspectors will also check drivers for:

  • Seat belt usage
  • Illness
  • Fatigue
  • Apparent alcohol or drug possession or impairment

Drivers found to be operating without the proper driver credentials, in possession of or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, operating while ill, fatigued or showing other signs of impairment, or in violation of hours-of-service rules may be placed out of service.

More inspection info can be found HERE

Brake Safety Week is Set for Aug. 23-29

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Brake Safety Week will proceed as scheduled, Aug. 23-29. Enforcement officials will inspect commercial motor vehicles throughout the week and vehicles found to have critical out-of-service brake violations, or other critical vehicle out-of-service inspection item violations, will be restricted from traveling until those violations are corrected. Vehicles that pass eligible inspections may receive a passed-inspection CVSA decal.

Checking brake system components is always part of the roadside inspection process; however, inspectors will be paying special attention to brake hoses/tubing during this year’s Brake Safety Week to highlight the importance of those components to vehicle mechanical fitness and safety.

During last year’s Brake Safety Week, 13.5% of the commercial motor vehicles inspected had brake-related vehicle inspection item violations and were placed out of service.

Brake Safety Week is part of law enforcement’s effort to reduce brake-related crashes by conducting roadside inspections and identifying and removing unsafe commercial motor vehicles from roadways.

Enhanced Uptime Services Packages

Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks have announced an extension to their respective uptime services support bundles at no cost through the end of the year or a minimum of three months, whichever is longer, for customers with packages expiring between May 1, 2020 and Dec. 31, 2020.

Included in the Mack Trucks bundle is Mack GuardDog Connect, Mack’s fully integrated telematics solution. Customers also have access to Mack OneCall, Mack’s 24/7 customer support and Mack ASIST, Mack’s web-based service management program. Mack Over The Air remote software updates are included, as well.

Mack OneCall agents at the Mack Uptime Center offer support to customers experiencing planned and unplanned service events, including scheduling service and repairs. Agents also respond to events that are proactively identified through GuardDog Connect, standard on all Mack models equipped with Mack engines.

GuardDog Connect also enables Mack Over The Air, offering remote software updates for powertrain components and vehicle parameters for Mack trucks equipped with 2017 or newer Mack engines. Updates are scheduled for when it works best for the customer. In February, Mack announced driver-activated updates, enabling customers to initiate onboard updates through the vehicle instrument cluster whenever and wherever it’s most convenient for them. This feature will be available in the fourth quarter of 2020.

The Volvo Trucks Uptime Services bundle includes:

  • Volvo Trucks Remote Diagnostics powertrain package, minimizing unexpected downtime by monitoring Volvo engine performance, Volvo I-Shift transmissions and aftertreatment systems.
  • Web-based ASIST service communications platform, providing digital access to dealers for electronic estimates, repair orders and approvals.
  • 24/7 roadside support from Volvo Action Service (VAS), providing access to Volvo Trucks’ Uptime Center experts headquartered at the company’s headquarters in Greensboro, N.C., to manage emergency service, schedule repairs and assist with any issues that happen on the road.
  • Remote Programming updates, enabling direct connectivity with the Volvo Trucks Uptime Center for remote system upgrades using the Volvo Trucks telematics platform.

  • Encourage the use of our mobile repair service fleet.
  • Limited access in our buildings to customers and critical vendors only.

Volvo VHD Dump Truck

Volvo Trucks introduces new VHD

For vocational drivers, hard work is more than just an expectation – it’s a constant challenge. And for the toughest jobs, only the toughest trucks will do. But what if a truck is not only tougher than the rest, but also smarter? Volvo Trucks is proud to introduce the new Volvo VHD, engineered with the right balance of reliable strength, rugged looks and innovative technology to make this truck the new leader in vocational productivity.

The new Volvo VHD Vocational Series offers not only a fresh, modern look, but also the latest in safety and uptime solutions for vocational applications, providing a number of notable upgrades, including:
● An updated exterior gives a modern look that reflects the other models in the Volvo Trucks family. The VHD has a new grille design, as well as new LED high/low beam headlights. The fully sealed headlamp component offers a brighter, more focused beam for increased visibility. An available de-icing feature burns through ice and snow that accumulates on headlamps in colder weather.
● Groundbreaking safety and productivity features for the vocational industry include Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS) and the next generation of Volvo Active Driver Assist (VADA). The VDS system delivers a safer, more comfortable driver experience by adding torque to reduce steering strain at low speeds and remove vibrations caused by rough terrain. Also, now available in the VHD, the next-generation VADA provides integrated radar/camera capabilities, automatic emergency braking, highway departure warnings, adaptive cruise control and more.
● A new, robust VHD bumper features a heavy-duty 45 mm tow pin rated for a full 80,000 pounds. Responding to customer requests, the rugged tow pin allows for a quick pull out of sticky situations thereby increasing uptime and drivers’ peace of mind.
● A state-of-the-art interior offers improved driver comfort and productivity. For example, the steering wheel buttons are more touch-friendly and clustered intuitively to help drivers feel more confident as they drive.

● Volvo I-Shift transmission with crawler gears adds one or two gears to the 12-speed Volvo I-Shift transmission, enabling the VHD to start on steep grades, provide low-speed control, and reach maximum highway speeds with faster rear axle ratios.
● Volvo T-Ride suspension delivers the best ride under the most demanding conditions by applying constant pressure on the wheels to create sure-footed traction. The Volvo T-ride suspension also offers a new ride stiffness option for mixers and trucks with wing plows.
● The latest in connectivity solutions such as Remote Programming and Remote Diagnostics allow customers to use real data insights to make the right decisions for increased safety and truck productivity.

Customer Appreciation Day – Dec. 24, 2018

On Monday, Dec. 24th, we wanted to thank all of our customers for their hard work and dedication during this holiday season. Trucking provides the greater majority of shipping services and movement of goods in the United States. More than 80 percent of U.S. communities rely solely on trucking for delivery of goods, which means that many drivers aren’t able to spend the holidays with their loved ones.

Men in Front of Bruckner's

Happy 70th Anniversary, Mack Trucks!

B.M. “Bennie” Bruckner, Sr. started his company, Bruckner’s Garage, in 1932 during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. He might have waited for better times to start the business but Bennie had lost his job and had a family to feed. He was very determined to succeed.

In 1948, Bennie contacted Mack Trucks and was awarded a Mack Trucks franchise.  At that time, he was one of the first Mack dealers west of the Mississippi River.  Bennie always saw the value of his team and worked to build them up.  He knew that hiring good people would lead to great customer service.

Despite only having a 4th grade formal education, Bennie had grit and determination. He passed these traits on to his son, Ben Bruckner, Jr, and his legacy continues with the 3rd generation, Brian and Chris Bruckner.
